Favorite Green Pants

February 15, 2018
And the week just keeps flying by.  I almost started this post with a Happy Wednesday.... ummm no, it's Thursday!

I hope everyone had a Happy Valentines Day! I have noticed a hint of spring in store windows with fun pastels and that makes me very happy.  Although, I know there will be about another month of transitioning; that means making the most of the items you have in your closet.  I have really had fun reworking these green pants with so many different tops and sweater.  If you don't have a pair of army green pants, I would definitely recommend you look for a great pair.  These are from Loft, but  I know Gap has some great slim fit pant too.  Speaking of Loft, Ann Taylor has always been a favorite place for me to find great work wear pieces and the only store left open here has closed.  I still like to shop in stores rather than always online; another store bites the dust in a world of online shopping.  What are some of your favorite stores? Leave me a comment.

Nautical stripes

February 06, 2018
Happy Tuesday!! Today I am sharing one of the easiest combos I think that you can put together.  It's hard to not think nautical when mixing up navy stripes.

Such an easy look to pull together.  These army green pants will be a great staple to transition into spring with; and the sweater is sleeveless making it a perfect transition item too.  Is it just me... or does it seem like winter is dragging on right now?  I am desperately in need of more sunny days and less gray days.  While living in Florida, I added so many summery items to my closet.  Now, I just need the seasons to hurry up and change so I can enjoy all my sundresses.  Come on spring... where are ya?

I have been slowly adding items to my wardrobe.  When I purged my closet last year, and moved to what I would consider more of a "mono" climate... I mean let's be honest,  Florida pretty much has one season.   I panicked a little at what seemed like an empty, I have nothing to wear mentality when I look for something to wear everyday.  How could I get so lucky (insert sarcasm here) to be working for yet again a healthcare organization with a no denim rule.  To make matters worse for me, they have a stricter sandal policy.  Boy am I going to have to go shopping!  That's not such a bad thing now is it?!

Dog and Boy Muses

January 10, 2018
Welcome 2018!  Hello my friends, I have missed each and every one of you.  What a journey the past year has been and I am forever grateful for you and all the sweet comments, text, emails and calls while you patiently waited for me to come back.   I am so glad to be back to blogging and have truly felt all your love while I have taken this little break.  Maybe someday I will write more in details as to the past year, but for now, I am just glad to be stepping back into my blog that I so dearly missed as well as all of you.  So without further ado here we go....

Dog and Boy  has been on my radar for some time now.  I love a great scarf and these did not disappoint.   Made of a silk and cotton blend they are soft and luxurious to the touch and the oversized scarf lends itself to endless possibilities of styling.  This particular scarf, The Muses is fun with its pinks and grays; throw in a few spots and it was perfect for me.  Dog and Boy Scarfs are more than just a fashion accessory, they are a piece of art, a journey into your creative imagination and inspiration.   Never shy to pattern mix, I was quick to add the playful pattern of my scarf with this bright striped sweater and my Clare V Leopard Sandrine.

Happy Wednesday!

3 Ways to Wear a Button up shirt

September 01, 2016
I have enjoyed styling my button up shirts a lot this summer.  They are quite versatile and I think the right white button down shirt and denim shirt are wardrobe staples.  These items shouldn't be investment pieces as you can pick yourself up a really good shirt for around 70 bucks or less if you shop the sale right! Old navy has a great selection that won't break the bank, and when Gap, Madewell, or Talbots has their sale, (which we all know they do several times a year) watch for your favorite to go down in price and grab it! I picked up my white shirt at Madewell, and my denim shirt at Talbots.

There are many ways to style a button up and here are a few of my most recent outfits.  Tie it around your waist for a great layered look.  One favorite by many is the half tuck. I shared both my chambray and my white button down with a half tuck in two outfits below.   I layered my chambray shirt in the third picture with a light sweater; great look for transitioning seasons!  Have fun with your button ups and think outside of the norm when it comes to traditional wear items!

Gingham Summer Sun Dress

June 27, 2016
Happy Monday.  I have been excited to share this dress with you.  I scored this summer dress on sale at Loft last week and love it.  I was actually trying on another dress and the sales lady had this dress in her hand to put back when she checked on me in the dressing room.  I immediately asked what size it was and tried it on!  Gingham of course makes it a perfect summer sun dress.  It is available in a few other patterns and even a chambray.  You will definitely  love this dress for all your summer gatherings and festivities! This drop waist summer dress is casual and super comfy for when the heat hits.... and believe me it has hit here in the midwest.  I think it will be a perfect addition for my trip to Florida next month too!

We took these pictures in the middle of the day so it is super bright out.... and hot.  The breeze was the only thing that made it bearable as long as it didn't flip up my hem too high!!  I finally gave in to all the hype an discussion many of you have had regarding dry shampoo.  I picked two cans up over the weekend and actually used it in my hair for these photos.  I really did want to see if it made a difference that was worth it.  So far I would say it's not too bad.  I bought two cans of Batiste; one tropical scent, and one that is formulated for blondes.  When I asked what the difference was she informed me the blonde dry shampoo had a slight tint to it to add a bit of light and shimmer to your hair!  I'll take shimmer!!  I am hoping it will be exactly what I will need on vacation when I don't want to torture my hair every day after being in the sun and heat of Florida.  Stay tune for more updates!!

White Denim for Spring

February 25, 2016
It's funny what you don't notice when you are busy looking at everything.  Sounds funny huh?  Think about it for a minute.... you notice things like landscaping, architecture, and graffiti, but when you are busy looking for something and you don't know what you begin to notice everything.   We were out and about over the weekend and checking out photo locations.  We drove past the usual places with a desire for something else.  We didn't know what or where, but we knew we would know it when we found it.    We began to see things that are common everyday places except brighter and bolder.  Take this neon door for example.  We found these as the back entrance to a building while turning around to check out another area.  It was as if they were waiting for us.   I wish we had a whole slew of colored walls like LA or Miami but then I would need palm trees too!  So for now I will take a neon door and a new wall of ivy we found as great locations.

I paired up a few of my favorites, and I pulled out my white denim to transition them into spring.  Paired with my jean jacket and blue striped top with this Dolyn cross body, it was a perfect look.  I love how the blue zipper on the bag really pops.  I added my trusty leopard heels and a pair of Nickel and Suede leather earrings to my outfit and was ready for date night.  I am so ready for patio weather and longer daylight.  It's so close!!

Monochromatic Flutter Top

November 30, 2015
Now this top would generally be on my list of items to stay away from.  The flutter peplum is not something that is flattering on everyone.  I'm not sure what possessed me to pick it up and try it on but it ended up in the dressing room with me.  As soon as I put it on I felt good in it.  I twirled around in the dressing room mirror to my surprise and thought It was flattering to my surprise.  The details on the neckline and the monochrome pattern is so delicate but sexy.  I chose to wear a solid tank under the top as its a wee bit sheer.  I may look for a cage tank or cage bra if it covers enough to wear under it.  I didn't know what a cage bra was until I started researching them.... sounds a bit risqué. What would you wear under this top?

Polka Dot Tunic

November 25, 2015
I love a good tunic.  And by good tunic I mean a top long enough to cover your bum but not so big it looks maternity.  I had my first holiday party this weekend and was shopping for something festive. Perhaps red or green..... I know so cliché.  I wasn't having much luck because what I was picturing in my head and what I wanted to spend were totally not on the same page. I did however score this darling  top.  When I saw this tunic in Loft (And on sale) I knew it would look great with leggings or skinny jeans.  Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I have a low key holiday planned this year.  No traveling; just small and intimate. Hope you enjoy the long weekend with friends and family and don't eat too much!

How to Pattern Mix with Colors

August 06, 2015

I wore this my last day in California and traveling home.  I spent my last morning in Cali with my son and of course on the beach.  It was such an amazing trip and the quality time we had together will be memories we both will treasure forever.  I cried like most mothers when it was time to say goodbye.  It was hard leaving him knowing it would be the holidays before I would see him again.

I made it to the airport and on my plane just fine but something stirred inside me when
we taxied down the runway and the tears started to flow again.  I was a sap and was trying to contain myself.  Talk about making the person next to you feel weird.  I think I hid it and pulled myself together and tried to focus on my magazines and of course my fabulous treats from Bottega Louies I picked up while in LA the day before.  It was a long day of traveling  with full planes and coming back to the reality of no cool evenings, ocean walks, and not a care in the world!  Welcome home to the hot humid Midwest... you know what they say; There's no place like home and my own bed and pillow were a welcome sight.

Orange generally isn't a color I am drawn too.  But these muted stripes somehow were appealing.  The fit of these shorts are comfy and I liked the length for me.  I wasn't too sure what I would wear them with when I first got them, but knew if all else failed a white tank would work.  Being the pattern mixer I am, I immediately went right to this tank in my closet and loved it together.  I accessorized pulling the blues from the top and my new Kendra Scott earrings.  We have a new store opening here next week and I cannot wait to try out the color bar.  Have any of you experienced the color bar?  I would love to know what you made!

These aren't the brightest of pictures; the sun was trying to make its way out of the morning clouds.

Los Angeles Murals

August 05, 2015
We spent one afternoon in Los Angeles.  One afternoon was enough.  I was a bit leary of driving up there with fears the 405 would be a parking lot.  We lucked out and had no traffic trouble at all on the trip up or back to Dana Point.  I remember as a young teen traveling with my family to LA on several occasions.  We made the trips to Disneyland, the Rose Bowl, San Juan Capistrano, San Fran... and the list goes on.  My Dad had business on everyone of these trips and both my parents were good about scheduling trips in the summer so we could be gone for weeks at a time exploring.  I remember on one trip to DC we were visiting the Lincoln Memorial and my younger sister and I were horsing around and I think.... (ok I did)  pushed her and she busted her forehead.  The park rangers had to come see about the incident and she received a little bandage and TLC from everyone.  I'm pretty sure I never acknowledged the "actual" push that lead to the fall.... things can be a bit fuzzy when you're a kid, and then again it is my word against hers!!  I digress.....  Back to LA. The point here is I traveled a lot growing up and saw pretty much everything you could imagine.  Every national Park, national monument, all the states except 5 and the state capitals to all the states we visited as well.  What I don't remember was LA being so crowded, dirty, and people driving with no regard for others.  We visited the hollywood walk of stars to find a few stars we had to snap a pic of.

My parents were friends (I use the word friends loosely as we weren't like BBQ, backyard, lets get the kids together friends)  more like business friends with Mel Blanc and I met him on several occasions as well as his son who I had a crush on but he was way too old for me at the time. If you don't know who Mel Blanc is, he was the voice of many cartoon characters From Bugs Bunny, Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird, Barney Rubble and so many others.    I have several autographed cards from Mel with all his cartoon characters drawn on the cards with him and even a letter he wrote to my Dad dated 1970 with a large Bugs Bunny watermark across the letter.

Of course I had to make a detour to stop at Bottega Louie for a box of macarons......

After the usual tourist sightseeing and Hollywood sign pic we headed to Beverly Hills.  I knew LA had tons of colorful murals and wanted to stop and snap my outfit pics with one.  We came across this wall and I knew it was the perfect compliment to what I was wearing.   I'm pretty sure we parked illegally and jumped out to snap these pics.  Once we were done and we continued to make our way to Beverly Hills then on to Santa Monica to see my Niece.  We passed so many other fabulous murals; I wished I could have taken pics with them all.
