Weekend Wear

August 31, 2016

So I have been home from vacation now for a few weeks and while the thought of putting away my sundresses and sandals is sooner than I would like,  I have incorporated my bralettes nicely into my weekend wear.  I am truly so happy I found a brand that is comfortable to wear all day.  My favorite is the Cosabella racerback.  I also love the Free People halter bralette and own it in several colors.   For as long as I can remember I have worn underwire bras but lately I have noticed the wires being a bit uncomfortable.  I am so glad I switched it up.  Enough of bra talk... lets discuss fall transition for a bit.  I know, I know, you're not suppose to wear white after labor day and that is this weekend.  Well I call BS on that faux pas.  White can be worn all fall if you layer it correct.  Instead of a bright tee or top switch it out for a long sleeve tee in a more each tone color.  Add a scarf to create a light layer and switch up your sandals for a heeled peep toe bootie.  What would you wear with your white jeans to transition them for fall?

Style Tip:  Add a pop of color to your outfit by layering your bralette in a bright fun color with your tee or top.  You actually want your straps to show a little.  It's a great accessory with a hint of color and lace.

Mixed Patterns - Third Times a Charm

July 27, 2016
Happy Wednesday friends!  This skirt has been a trooper. I shared where I styled it with a white button down, and with a Pink Paisley and blue ombre' look that didn't work the best it could.  So here I am, third times a charm even though the first time was a success, but the second time not so much.  I took the mistakes from the second style and improved them.  I added a v neck striped tee this time rather than a round neck tee that had a longer hem.   I also switched out the wedges in brown for my M Gemi bright pink flat sandals.  This time around I think the outfit is a success.  What do you think about this outfit?  It's really fun to see what you can put together all from within your current wardrobe.

Style Tip:  When mixing patterns remember that the size should be two different scales.  Notice the larger print on the skirt stands out, where the stripes are a nice compliment without competing with the paisley skirt.  I added my Rustic Cuff leather wrap bracelet in leopard for that little pop I always like to have.

White Batik Tunic

July 14, 2016
I picked up this cute tunic at Marshalls last week with the intention of using it as a beach cover-up.  It was in the swim section after all. I still will, but first I thought I would share how versatile this batik cover-up is and what a versatile item  it is as a tunic top.  The back is significantly longer for covering your bum at the beach, but as a tunic I did my side tuck and voila'!  It is a thin fabric which makes it a great beach item, and a light summer top.  Per my usual..... I snuck in a pop of leopard with this skinny belt.  It is a great accessory and if you don't have a skinny leopard belt, you need to pick one up.  I have owned these gold sandals for many years and they are one of my summer favorites.  I wish I could find another pair just like them but unfortunately the company no longer makes these.

I know many time we struggle with mixing metals; gold and silver actually do go together!  I mixed up silver bangles with a silver cuff with gold monogramming, gold sandals and gold earrings and necklace.  Total mixing up and it all worked !  Are you still stuck thinking you can't mix them?  Give it a try.

I wanted to share that last weeks post Cutoffs and Chucks is the spotlight of the week post with Stylin in St Louis.  I am so grateful and appreciate the kindness of other fashion gals who believe in community over competition.  Thank you.... for following along, and for always being kind.

Summer Halter

July 13, 2016
Summer time means halter tops and tank tops. I am beginning the process of pulling items for my trip to Palm Beach and the Florida Keys in a little over two weeks and this halter will definitely be packed!  Just the fact that I can say I am packing for vacation makes me happy!  I know we will have plenty of fun and sun not to mention a few adult cocktails!  My best friend of 26+ years moved to Palm Beach 4 years ago, and while I  would love to move to Florida too, right now isn't the right time for me.  I need my boys to be a little more stable with their adult legs under them before I move 7 states away!  I know, people say they can visit, and "it's not that far away".... and my favorite is when someone says " well then they will be force to get their legs under themselves".  It's hard enough in the world right now without adding additional stress and worries on my boys at this growing stage in their lives.  Florida isn't sinking, or floating away.  It will be there when I am ready to move.

I have always loved Florida, mostly the Gulf side.  I grew up going to visit my grandparent who lived in the Gulf Breeze Pensacola area during the summers and visiting the white sands, and clear blue waters has always held a special spot in my heart. I am an ocean girl for sure!  I use to always think I didn't care for California beaches as much until my visit there last year to Laguna.... um let's just say I wold move there!  Hello?!... Thousands steps beach!!!   This week is halfway over.... Happy Wednesday!

Tie Dye Maxi

July 10, 2016
Happy Monday!  How was your weekend?  I had a productive two days off and that makes for a great start for a full work week... at least I hope so!!  One thing is for sure, the humidity is in full force and if you don't have thick hair then you would notice as much as me.  I have thick... I mean thick hair.  I'm not really complaining; some woman would love to have hair as thick as mine.  It is a blessing, but a problem at times too.  My hair is naturally full of body with a lot of wave and curl.  I straighten the heck out of my hair most days or else I add an actual curl to it to tame the size!  Doesn't that sound funny to say?  Cutting my hair would only make it curlier too.  I will live with the humidity and you will have to laugh your way through the next few outfits with hair the size of a lions mane (dramatic I know)!!

I have had this maxi for a few years and even summer I love it just as much as the summer before.  I am a sucker for most tie dye as long as it doesn't resemble too much of a Grateful Dead or hippie look!! The neck line plunges a bit so I add a lace bra let to take up a little cleavage.  I love the criss cross back and to add a little leg I tie a knot in the hem off to one side!  Have you ever tie your maxi hem?  You should try it and see if you like it!!

Summer Casuals

July 07, 2016
One dress, two looks.  One of the best things you can own in your closet are versatile pieces.  Items that you can change a pair of shoes, or add a jacket and take your look up a notch.  This stripe dress is definitely a versatile summer dress.  Paired with a converse sneaker this is a perfect summer casual outfit.  Of course, a hat is a necessary accessory!  You have seen me wear my Nickel and Suede leather earrings many times.  They are so comfortable and lightweight, you really don't realize you have any on.  I tied my chambray shirt around my waist for more of an added touch of color more than a necessary layer.   Tying my chambray shirt  around my waist also serves well to keep you skirt down when the wind picks up!!

I switched up my outfit with a quick change of shoes and these gladiator sandals dressed it up for an easy evening out with friends or date night.  My chambray shirt tied can now serve as a layer if it becomes chilly out.  What do you have in your wardrobe that you can transition into multiple outfits with minor changes?

Wednesday Wants

June 22, 2016
This weeks edition of Wednesdays wants is a bit random, but fun all the same!  How many times has it began to rain and the first thing you think of is how to tuck your handbag under your coat or blouse?  I know I have!  Why not a raincoat for your bag?  Now admittedly  it's a bit crazy looking, but at least it's effective right?    This color block sun dress is perfect and what do you think of the Tory Burch sandals?  I love the multi colored logo, but I am not a fan of the patent leather.  Tassel earrings... yes please!

Off The Shoulder

June 16, 2016
There are trends to get excited about, and then there are trends to sit back and watch pass by.  The off the shoulder trend is definitely a trend to jump on.  I was skeptical at first.  Wondering if the shoulders really did stay off the shoulder.  Then there was the whole length issue; cropped tops are not a good fit for me.  When I first saw this top at Banana Republic I knew it was perfect for me.  The button down the back details  and the tie cuffs only added to this fun off the shoulder.  These Old Navy shorts are available in a wide range of colors and are always at a great price point. I picked up a few new pair for this summer and may go back for more!

My earrings are by a local designer here in Kansas City, Nickel and Suede.  Kilee and her husband Soren just opened up a brand new store front and I am so happy for her successes.  I love my leather earrings and these blush are so soft and delicate in color.  Nickel and Suede launches new colors thru out the year and right now she has some pretty yellow and pinks!  Red just became available too so you might want to grab a pair for the 4th of July holiday!  Enjoy your Thursday!

Blush Details

June 13, 2016
Happy Monday.  If there is one thing I enjoy and to me that is creative thinking.... it's piecing outfits together from your own wardrobe.  Sometimes I start with one items such as this jacket, and other times it all starts with bracelet or bag.  There is something so clean and refreshing to an all white outfit.  Of course, I had to add pops of blush pink! Next week is the first day of summer and I will be ditching jeans and jackets I am sure, but in the mean time I am still enjoying the light layers.  What's the weather like where you are?  Are you still able to layer, or are you in the less is more stages of dressing?
When layering in late spring, try to layer in a sense that you may remove one item and still have a great look.  In this case, I could remove either the jacket or the scarf and still look polished and put together.

The Perfect Chambray Shirt

June 10, 2016
Happy Friday!  I love exploring the city and when we stumbled across  this wall we were giddy with excitement!  If there is one thing I am jealous of California, it's all the fabulous painted walls and murals their city has to offer.  I am tempted to DIY a pink wall for myself and store it in the garage.  I could only imagine how that conversation would go with Joe..... something like " it's a prop wall, and no you may not throw it away" and "yes I am keeping it".  Ha ha.  I have to watch him or he will clean out the garage of projects I am, well we will call it "contemplating" to do! I will let you know if I paint a faux wall pink!

So let's discuss my outfit.  My Talbot's Chambray shirt was a smart purchase this spring.  You definitely need one of these as a versatile item.  My Loft shorts I purchased last year for my trip to Laguna Beach and they have another great selection of shorts this season.  I always love mixing turquoise with chambray.  Something about it feels so southwest to me.  My Gucci bag is vintage, as in from the early 80's vintage!  I was a smart girl knowing what to hang onto from those days.  I receive a lot of compliments on these cross strap sandals.   Mine are last season from J Crew, but they are available this year from Old Navy and I linked to them below!  Hope you have a relaxing weekend and enjoy some sunshine!  I know I will!

Wednesday Wants

May 11, 2016
Wednesday wants are a little late today... but it's still Wednesday.  I attended an event last night and when I got home I just didn't have the energy to pull my list together!  Do you ever just get home and want to do nothing?  Yeah, that was me last night.  So this week's list has a few summer fun items and well as a staple item or two!  Loving tassels anyway I can get them, on the hem of this fun top or a pair of fun earrings.  Love them!  I love my slip silk pillowcase and swear by it.  Add a little Kiehl's midnight recovery and you are in for the best beauty sleep you can get.  I am loving the saddle tan this season and this bag is super cute.  I have been a fan of Ashley Pittman jewelry for some time and hope to add a few pieces of hers to my collection of bracelets. Honestly I would love any piece of Ashley Pittman jewelry.  Taking the best of both worlds this sandal is a comfy flat and has an ankle strap.  Soft pink lips please with this Dior lip glow, and finally this off the shoulder gingham top/tunic is adorable.  This image doesn't do it justice and it's on sale too!  Enjoy!

7 ways to style White Denim

May 06, 2016
Gap
Happy Friday!  The weather is gorgeous here in the Midwest and it looks like spring has finally arrived.  Can you believe we are already into May?  Crazy.  My middle son turns 24 tomorrow and Sunday is Mother's Day so it will be busy to say the least for me.   I have shared so many outfits with my white denim this spring and we aren't even close to Memorial Day. I 'm pretty sure the rule of white after Memorial Day is a bit out of date! I rounded up my favorite outfits where I have styled my white jeans, both distressed and non distressed to show you how versatile a pair can be.  If you don't have a pair.... you should get a pair now!   I linked to everything that was still available or shared options in all of these outfits below.

Wedges are super popular again this season and I tend to wear them a lot more now.  They are comfortable and can dress any outfit up, or down, depending on what you pair them with.  In the first two outfits I wore heels with my white denim.  A mid heel, but definitely dresses up my outfit.  Don't be afraid to mix denims together.  I paired my jean jacket with two of these outfits and loved the contrast!  Another fun option is to throw on a pair of converse.   From bags, to clutches to totes anything goes with white denim!  Have fun with how you style your denim and let me know if you have a favorite way you style your white denim.
