Asneh Florence Sleeveless Sweater

December 09, 2016

For this styling of my Asneh sweater I opted for casual.  When I shared with you here as the perfect cashmere vest I knew I needed to share a casual look so you can see just how versatile this vest is.  What better way to dress down than in chambray and denim.  Of course with a floppy hat too!  When I think of layering with a sweater, I think bulky.  I love the vest because it eliminates the bulk but keeps the warmth.  I wish it was a little longer for me personally,  but it is so soft and perfect with your shirt tails hanging out to make up for the length.

I have really been working hard to shop my entire closet this season with very little new additions.  I am struggling to not buy any new sweaters this season.... but reworking what I already own has pushed my creativity in my wardrobe!  When was the last time you shopped your closet to create a new outfit?

Pretty Pink Bow

December 05, 2016
Happy Monday.  How was everyone's weekend?  I did a little decorating and shopping and feel a little better about Christmas being here in only 3 weeks.  It's dress down day with this otherwise dressy sweater.  I first shared this gorgeous sweater you can read the full post here as the perfect bow.  I wanted to share just how easy it is to dress up and dress down.  I love the pink silk bow.  I threw it on with a pair of distressed jeans, my favorite of course, added a mid heel with a pop of leopard (of course) and I am weekend ready!  If the heel is more than you would want throw on a bootie, or even better a pair of riding boots.  I own these Frye boots (on sale right now) and absolutely love them.

How would you style this sweater?

How to Wear Pastels in Fall

October 04, 2016

Happy Tuesday friends!  I have a super busy weekend filled with events, appointments, and a few DIY projects I am tackling around my house.  I have been on a sanding and refinishing kick of a few items and I am so sore from it.  My shoulders are getting a workout for sure.  I just finished up refinishing my kitchen table and now I am in the process of stripping my Duncan Phyfe buffet and have a pretty good idea as to how I want it to look refinished.  If you want to see how this project is going be sure to follow me on snapchat (lisa.murie) for all the behind the scenes on my DIY projects.  I will be sharing them once I am completely done with a final reveal, but that may be a while!!

All this talk about projects is what leads me to todays outfit.  It's not a new combination, but it sure is a great fall transitional outfit.  Bringing the best of summer with the blush pink and a gorgeous fall color with this army green it makes a perfect outfit.  Taking two items I owned and giving them new life with a fresh twist.  Kinda like the buffet project (I hope) !  I do think it's time to pack away my Mezzi pink bag for fall, but I had to give it one more spin before I did.

Style Tip:  Mix your pastels in your outfits with a jewel tone color.  You can add a scarf, dark denim like I have here, or even add a richer color in your handbag and jewelry. Have fun with it!

Casual Office Wear

September 27, 2016

I share a lot of my casual outfits and love styling for the weekends.  Today I am sharing a great work outfit.  I jump at the chance to style a little denim for work and my jean jacket is the perfect item.  I love how denim is so easy to dress up or down.  I wanted a little dressier flair to my jacket so I paired it with these fun zipper heels and some bold Ashley Pittman jewelry. The bracelets are so fun and as I mentioned in my post Stripes and Chambray, Gayle and I have made just about every color you can imagine.  With fall nipping at our heels it is time to start thinking about layers and blanket scarfs.  I am ready to bust out my wool hat and have a few fun outfits lined up to share soon featuring a few new brands and items so stay tuned. What are some of your favorite fall trends?

3 Ways to Wear a Button up shirt

September 01, 2016
I have enjoyed styling my button up shirts a lot this summer.  They are quite versatile and I think the right white button down shirt and denim shirt are wardrobe staples.  These items shouldn't be investment pieces as you can pick yourself up a really good shirt for around 70 bucks or less if you shop the sale right! Old navy has a great selection that won't break the bank, and when Gap, Madewell, or Talbots has their sale, (which we all know they do several times a year) watch for your favorite to go down in price and grab it! I picked up my white shirt at Madewell, and my denim shirt at Talbots.

There are many ways to style a button up and here are a few of my most recent outfits.  Tie it around your waist for a great layered look.  One favorite by many is the half tuck. I shared both my chambray and my white button down with a half tuck in two outfits below.   I layered my chambray shirt in the third picture with a light sweater; great look for transitioning seasons!  Have fun with your button ups and think outside of the norm when it comes to traditional wear items!

5 Ways to style Converse Shoes

August 15, 2016
Art
I can't believe it has been two weeks since I posted.  In case you didn't know, I went on vacation with my best friend of 26 years.  She lives in Palm Beach and I flew in to visit her.  We took a road trip and drove down to Key west for three days and celebrated my birthday while we were there.  I decided to take a break from social media while I was on vacation; well except for snapchat!  I am so glad I did.  It was great to be present in the moment and really disconnect from my phone and computer.  I was gone for a total of 10 glorious sun filled days of laughter, shopping, more laughter, and every day a pool day!  I am ready to go back to the beach! I have several outfits to share with you, and of course the resort we stayed at while in Key West, so look for those to be posted later this week.

Today I want to share with you a trend that actually have become a staple in just about every gals wardrobe.  The Converse, or if you are old enough to remember them referred to as "Chucks"!  If you don't own a pair .... get out there and grab yourself some!  I am thinking about adding a pair of pink Converse to my closet.  Today I am sharing just how versatile a pair can be and different ways for you to style them.  The possibilities really are pretty endless! I have worn them with everything from white denim, to dresses! Throw them on with a maxi too!

Summer Casuals

July 07, 2016
One dress, two looks.  One of the best things you can own in your closet are versatile pieces.  Items that you can change a pair of shoes, or add a jacket and take your look up a notch.  This stripe dress is definitely a versatile summer dress.  Paired with a converse sneaker this is a perfect summer casual outfit.  Of course, a hat is a necessary accessory!  You have seen me wear my Nickel and Suede leather earrings many times.  They are so comfortable and lightweight, you really don't realize you have any on.  I tied my chambray shirt around my waist for more of an added touch of color more than a necessary layer.   Tying my chambray shirt  around my waist also serves well to keep you skirt down when the wind picks up!!

I switched up my outfit with a quick change of shoes and these gladiator sandals dressed it up for an easy evening out with friends or date night.  My chambray shirt tied can now serve as a layer if it becomes chilly out.  What do you have in your wardrobe that you can transition into multiple outfits with minor changes?

Gingham Pants

June 30, 2016
Sharing today another successful shop my closet outfit with you.  These gingham pants are a favorite of mine.  You know I love gingham!!  As I was pulling items for my upcoming trip to Palm Beach I came across this off the shoulder top.  I actually forgot about it.  I have had it a few years and the shoulders can be worn up or down.  I like that it is versatile.  I paired this outfit up with a colorful cardigan.  You an never have enough cardigans for a pop of color or light layering.

This holiday weekend we are expecting thunderstorms off and on.  I feel bad for everyone who may have plans to go to the lake, or attend a big fireworks display.  Hopefully the weather will hold off and only bring mild temperatures!  Fingers crossed!  What plan do you have to celebrate the fourth of July?   Do you celebrate with fireworks, or do you prefer to just watch them?  I was more daring when I was younger and didn't mind setting some off, but now I am pretty content watching a display, or some simple sparklers and snakes for the grandkids!  We get to enjoy  a few spectacular shows from our deck which makes it that much nicer.

Wednesday Wants

June 22, 2016
This weeks edition of Wednesdays wants is a bit random, but fun all the same!  How many times has it began to rain and the first thing you think of is how to tuck your handbag under your coat or blouse?  I know I have!  Why not a raincoat for your bag?  Now admittedly  it's a bit crazy looking, but at least it's effective right?    This color block sun dress is perfect and what do you think of the Tory Burch sandals?  I love the multi colored logo, but I am not a fan of the patent leather.  Tassel earrings... yes please!

Tassel Trim Cold Shoulder

June 21, 2016
Summer has officially arrived and I couldn't be happier!  I love the summer and believe it or not the heat doesn't bother me near as much as the cold.  I would much rather be hot than cold.  I spied this cute summer dress while shopping in Target last week and thought it would be a great dress to take to the beach.  I book my trip to Palm Beach next month and I fully expect to be beach side almost every single day.  My best friend of 26 years lives in West Palm Beach and we have scheduled some fun adventures.  A day at Disney World, and a road trip down to the Florida Keys are both on our list!  My son is trying to talk me into taking a day trip to Cuba.... I think I will pass on that for right now.
Style Tip:  Off the shoulder trend is going strong right now and that means for many a strapless bra.  I suggest trying your normal bra with straps and just drop the straps off your shoulders.  It is more comfortable and stays in place.

Plaid Shirt Dress

May 31, 2016
How was your weekend?  Did you have any big Memorial day festivities?  The weather was gorgeous so all you lake lovers should have some pretty good color, and maybe even a few hangovers for some.  Not me!!!   I made a batch of my homemade sangria and shared it with the neighbors.... apparently it was a big hit (not surprised) as they have already made plans for next weekend to make another batch!   It is good!
Starting the week on a Tuesday is always a bit odd.  Not that a 4 day work week is a bad thing, it just throws everything off.  From casual to straight up comfy, I styled this dress two ways with a few minor changes.  Actually you could leave the sandals on with both looks and it would be fine. I love a shirt dress.  A shirt dress is comfortable and still a stylish look. I threw on a pair of sandals for a dressier look while still being comfortably casual.  For a switch up I paired my converse and added my jean jacket for an added element of layering.  While the first look with sandals is perfect for daytime or evening, the transition to converse and jean jacket is a perfect pairing for an evening event that starts out warmer and as the sun sets the jacket is ready for cooler evenings.  We have several festivals and art fairs this time of year and the evenings can still get pretty cool.
