Breakfast at the Breakers

September 02, 2016

I am down to my final outfit from my trip to Palm Beach and I saved this one for last.  On my last Sunday Morning there we went to The Breakers for breakfast.  It was a gorgeous morning and who doesn't love eating Oceanside?  The setting was fabulous with the breeze coming in from the water and of course the landscaping and grandeur of The Breakers was a treat.  We enjoyed an omelet with avocado and toast; there may or may not have been a few mimosas.  Our morning was spent exploring around the grounds before heading off to the pool for my last full day in the Florida sun. My tan has faded now since I have been home but I still have good color!  We didn't want to show up looking like pool bums so we dressed for the setting and this brown ombre' sundress was for sure a favorite of mine.  I love when a sundress has a bit of movement to it and just the right amount of hemline to be fun and summery.  Sometimes being short has big advantages.... like sundresses that are the right length, rather than tall gals that can't find them long enough!

I love.... I mean absolutely love this Ashley Pittman chain and pendant.  The pieces are individual so you can mix and match pendants as I did here with my Cold Shoulder dress, and also here in my  Summer Sun dress.  I love the weight of the chain; it's heavy.  You know I love unique pieces and this round stone encrusted pendant is right up my alley.  Love it.    I can't wait to style these pieces for fall too!

Style Tip:  Wear a bandeau bra with strappy dresses that have wider necklines.  A racer back bralette or halter bralette would fight with the straps and neckline of this dress.   This allows for the details, and in this case, the keyhole to be the focal point.

Weekend Wear

August 31, 2016

So I have been home from vacation now for a few weeks and while the thought of putting away my sundresses and sandals is sooner than I would like,  I have incorporated my bralettes nicely into my weekend wear.  I am truly so happy I found a brand that is comfortable to wear all day.  My favorite is the Cosabella racerback.  I also love the Free People halter bralette and own it in several colors.   For as long as I can remember I have worn underwire bras but lately I have noticed the wires being a bit uncomfortable.  I am so glad I switched it up.  Enough of bra talk... lets discuss fall transition for a bit.  I know, I know, you're not suppose to wear white after labor day and that is this weekend.  Well I call BS on that faux pas.  White can be worn all fall if you layer it correct.  Instead of a bright tee or top switch it out for a long sleeve tee in a more each tone color.  Add a scarf to create a light layer and switch up your sandals for a heeled peep toe bootie.  What would you wear with your white jeans to transition them for fall?

Style Tip:  Add a pop of color to your outfit by layering your bralette in a bright fun color with your tee or top.  You actually want your straps to show a little.  It's a great accessory with a hint of color and lace.

Blue Tank Dress with Cosabella Lace

August 23, 2016

Happy Tuesday.  I am still in full summer mode and as I go through all my vacation pictures I am really not ready to say goodbye to summer anytime soon.  We have had some unseasonably cool temperatures; morning lows 59 and 60's!  It's flat out scary to think fall is so close.  I have always loved summer and the warmer temperatures, but I do love fall once it is on full swing.  Let's hope I still feel that way this year after such a fabulously warm time in southern Florida.  When you think of layering you generally tend to think fall or spring.  Think cardigans and blanket scarfs.   Well today I am layering in the heat of summer and I love it!

I mentioned my new found Cosabella racerback bralettes when I shared my Cold Shoulder dress with you.  Today I am showing you all the pretty little details; not to mention the back views.  I love the delicate feel of my dress and paired with the lace it's a feminine look for sure.  I knew that pairing this gorgeous chunky Ashley Pittman necklace would be the perfect statement necklace. Made of hammered brass links intertwined with horn, it is stunning.   My earrings, also Ashley Pittman, are lightweight and so versatile.  I love accessories that work across different seasons as well as able to dress up or down.  These are the perfect statement earrings.

Cold Shoulder

August 19, 2016
When traveling to a climate that is different than yours you tend to play the guessing game with what to pack.  You think of what would seem to be ideal for the beach climate, and hot temperatures but inevitably you still run the risk of looking like a tourist; something I avoid at all cost.  The only over packing I did was with my shorts and tanks. I didn't wear a single pair!  Summer dresses are the way to go and so comfortable.  This cold shoulder dress is perfect for the beach environment.  It is breezy, lightweight, and has a fun bell sleeve.

Style Tip:  When wearing a cold shoulder or off the shoulder dress or top add a bandeau or bralette for added coverage and a wee bit of support.  Note:  these are not intended to replace your full support bras.  They are merely an added feature to your outfit while giving you a little coverage.  The beauty is there are no straps to keep covered and they don't slip down like a traditional strapless bra would.  I love the Cosabella racer back bralette and bandeau in a multitude of colors.  I shared one look on my instagram here with the back details of mine.   I own several of each and ordered a few more.  You can never have enough of a selection!

Transitioning a Dress

July 25, 2016
Happy Monday.  How was your weekend?  I spent mine preparing and pre packing for my trip this week for Florida. I may be over packing by about a dozen outfits....  A girl needs choices on vacation!   A few weeks back I was shopping for vacation and beach wear and came across this dress.  Finding a great dress for work is not always as easy as it sounds, so when I saw this dress at Saks off 5th I scooped it up.  I love the shape, colors, and mostly the great fit.  The tailored fit of this Tahari dress is slimming even with horizontal stripes.  Transitioning this dress for fall will be easy with a blazer or cardigan layered with it.  When shopping for items to add to your wardrobe  it's important to think of the number of seasons you can utilize it.  This dress with its soft colors, but yet bolder stripes will be a great transition item for spring with a cardigan.  Summer time the dress is perfect as it is, and for fall add a sweater again, or throw on a blazer.  If you really want to add an edge to the dress try an add a jacket with a shorter cut like a moto. Also, for fall add a close toe shoe to complete your look.  How would you style this dress?  Do you agree with my ideas?

Summer Halter

July 13, 2016
Summer time means halter tops and tank tops. I am beginning the process of pulling items for my trip to Palm Beach and the Florida Keys in a little over two weeks and this halter will definitely be packed!  Just the fact that I can say I am packing for vacation makes me happy!  I know we will have plenty of fun and sun not to mention a few adult cocktails!  My best friend of 26+ years moved to Palm Beach 4 years ago, and while I  would love to move to Florida too, right now isn't the right time for me.  I need my boys to be a little more stable with their adult legs under them before I move 7 states away!  I know, people say they can visit, and "it's not that far away".... and my favorite is when someone says " well then they will be force to get their legs under themselves".  It's hard enough in the world right now without adding additional stress and worries on my boys at this growing stage in their lives.  Florida isn't sinking, or floating away.  It will be there when I am ready to move.

I have always loved Florida, mostly the Gulf side.  I grew up going to visit my grandparent who lived in the Gulf Breeze Pensacola area during the summers and visiting the white sands, and clear blue waters has always held a special spot in my heart. I am an ocean girl for sure!  I use to always think I didn't care for California beaches as much until my visit there last year to Laguna.... um let's just say I wold move there!  Hello?!... Thousands steps beach!!!   This week is halfway over.... Happy Wednesday!

The Perfect Chambray Shirt

June 10, 2016
Happy Friday!  I love exploring the city and when we stumbled across  this wall we were giddy with excitement!  If there is one thing I am jealous of California, it's all the fabulous painted walls and murals their city has to offer.  I am tempted to DIY a pink wall for myself and store it in the garage.  I could only imagine how that conversation would go with Joe..... something like " it's a prop wall, and no you may not throw it away" and "yes I am keeping it".  Ha ha.  I have to watch him or he will clean out the garage of projects I am, well we will call it "contemplating" to do! I will let you know if I paint a faux wall pink!

So let's discuss my outfit.  My Talbot's Chambray shirt was a smart purchase this spring.  You definitely need one of these as a versatile item.  My Loft shorts I purchased last year for my trip to Laguna Beach and they have another great selection of shorts this season.  I always love mixing turquoise with chambray.  Something about it feels so southwest to me.  My Gucci bag is vintage, as in from the early 80's vintage!  I was a smart girl knowing what to hang onto from those days.  I receive a lot of compliments on these cross strap sandals.   Mine are last season from J Crew, but they are available this year from Old Navy and I linked to them below!  Hope you have a relaxing weekend and enjoy some sunshine!  I know I will!

Wednesday Wants

May 11, 2016
Wednesday wants are a little late today... but it's still Wednesday.  I attended an event last night and when I got home I just didn't have the energy to pull my list together!  Do you ever just get home and want to do nothing?  Yeah, that was me last night.  So this week's list has a few summer fun items and well as a staple item or two!  Loving tassels anyway I can get them, on the hem of this fun top or a pair of fun earrings.  Love them!  I love my slip silk pillowcase and swear by it.  Add a little Kiehl's midnight recovery and you are in for the best beauty sleep you can get.  I am loving the saddle tan this season and this bag is super cute.  I have been a fan of Ashley Pittman jewelry for some time and hope to add a few pieces of hers to my collection of bracelets. Honestly I would love any piece of Ashley Pittman jewelry.  Taking the best of both worlds this sandal is a comfy flat and has an ankle strap.  Soft pink lips please with this Dior lip glow, and finally this off the shoulder gingham top/tunic is adorable.  This image doesn't do it justice and it's on sale too!  Enjoy!

Wearing White in Fall

October 20, 2015
It is late October and today I am showing you how to wear white denim and pull it off for fall. In the spring and summer wearing sandals is the way to go with tanks and bare shoulders but for fall it's all about less is more when it comes to sharing some skin bare toes and white clothing.  It is too late in the season in my opinion to wear white jeans with sandals and tanks.  I paired my favorite pair of Frye boots with this hounds tooth poncho I spotted on a rack at Marshalls and couldn't pass it up for the price.  I love the details with the one button closure  and fringe.  The color is actually dark brown and camel but it doesn't look bad with the black tee.  Remember when incorporating white into your fall outfits.... a little goes a long way and layer it up with  maybe a field jacket or leather.

Fall Colors

October 14, 2015
I mentioned earlier this week I was sharing fall looks with items I bet you probably already own in your wardrobe.  Putting together a great look shouldn't always revolve around a new purchase.  Sure, we all like something new but realistically can you justify your time shopping every single week?  I love to shop as much as the next person but time is valuable and I don't want to always be in stores or shopping online.  Not to mention if I already own something similar it's a great savings too! Right now Shopbop is having a sale which they rarely offer so if you have your eye on a few things or want to get a jump on your holiday shopping use code INTHEFAM25 ... and now would be a good time to get them!

I am going to break down this look for you to show you how easy it is to create your own fall look from your closet.

Cardigan.  I bet you have a few in different colors.  If you don't, Old Navy or Target would be where I would start.  They offer a wide selection of colors at an affordable price.
Speaking of Old Navy, this chambray shirt is a staple I picked up there a few seasons back.  They never go out of style.
Distress denim.  You must have at least one pair.  If not, any pair of denim will do.
Scarf.  Umm hello?  You probably have more than you realize.
Leopard pumps.  Any neutral color will work.
Accessories.  Throw on a few bracelets ( I would choose gold jewelry for tans, browns, and orange colors, and silver jewelry for black, gray, and red)
