Christmas Eve PJ's

December 10, 2015
I remember growing up and opening presents on Christmas morning was always a joy.  What isn't always a joy is looking through photos of you as a kid on Christmas morning and looking like a hot mess.  When I had kids I started the tradition of letting them open one gift Christmas eve.  It was always the same..... new PJ's for the morning.  Ha, I got away with them thinking it was something awesome for a few years; then they caught on to me.  I still carried that tradition on until my boys moved away and started their own families.  What warms my heart is they have now started the tradition with their boys.

So today's post is about looking great for old Saint Nick on Christmas Morning!  Because lets face it..... we all want the instagram life right?!

Happy Monday!  Erin, Emily and I are excited for this week; we are launching our rebrand of the KC Blogger Meetup.  We have worked together for over 6 months on the redesign, rebranding, and making sure we have everything ready for the big launch on Thursday evening.   It is exciting to finally see it all come together!    I will be sharing the link to the new site once we go live and be sure to look for a recap of our launch party next week!   I have a busy week in front of me and wish I was still in my pj's.  If you are going to lounge in pj's....shouldn't they be this pretty?

Master Bedroom Reveal

June 01, 2015

This room has truly been a labor of love.  I've put more thought into this room than any other room in my home.  Usually I can pull together the décor and finish a room up in a relatively short amount of time. . .not this time.  I had a vision for how I wanted my bedroom to look.  This design journey began in my head over a year ago with only a few minor idea changes; different fabric for the pillows here, all white bedding rather than the taupe linen duvet cover there.  All in all, for me, the most important detail remained the same - creating a calming and peaceful place to retreat and relax.

I have to always be considerate of the fact that this is not just my room.  To my surprise, Joe was completely onboard with the touches of pink.  He would not have been happy with a pink explosion!  We literally stripped the room, from the bed and wall color to the carpeting.  The only original pieces left in the room are our night stands.  However, I do want to replace them with mirrored chests to match my other pieces and as soon as I find them in the right size I will.

I can't tell you how much I love this wall color.  It truly lives up to its name, Versatile Gray from Sherwin Williams.  It is the same paint we used in my office which you can see the full design post of here.   I used the below colors as my palette for the entire room.  Soft neutral colors with a slight pop of color in the brighter pink pompom throw, the pillows and the abstract art.

During the building process, I had outlets installed for both cable and electric higher up on the wall so that they could be hidden by the television.  Unfortunately, I didn't have a way to hide the DVD or cable box so I made a sleeve out of matching linen fabric to cover the unsightly cords that otherwise stand out.

I tried out two other rugs in my bedroom before finally finding this one at Rugs USA.  This is not my first rug from Rugs USA, so I was confident I would receive a rug with great quality and color accuracy.  I was right.  Not only does the color coordinate with my room, I love how it feels beneath my feet.

This is my favorite corner to sit with my laptop, to read a book, or catch up on my reality TV. I searched and searched for a lamp perfect for this space and finally found one with a rectangle base and shade from Lamps Plus. I was looking for a lamp that would not protrude too far into the room so this rectangular shape was important to me.  A bonus with my lamp is it has a floor on/off switch!

Have you tried sleeping on a silk pillow case yet? If not, you should!  I have to admit what they say is soooo true.  It really does make a difference with your hair and skin.   There are several brands out there so be sure to research their silk content.  Slip Silk Pillowcases sent me this pink (of course) pillowcase and I am sold.  I will never go back to a cotton pillowcase.

Lately

May 27, 2015
Happy Hump day!  I cannot believe we are half way thru this week!  A girl could get use to  having  3 day weekends!  I thought I would just post a little update on whats been going on around here.  I have been busy as a bee behind the scenes.  We had new carpet installed in the house and that means total removal of everything out of all the rooms, then put it all back again!  I was exhausted to say the least but love the new carpet so I guess it was worth all the work.  I took the opportunity to get rid of some things since I was forced to move it all... and I use the word "force" loosely!

As you may know, I am a board member of the KC Blogger Meetup and we held or spring/summer meet up last week.  It was a great evening and you can read the full recap here.  I have been sending a part of my evenings preparing and planning for the event in the weeks leading up to the event so by the time I was able to sit down and work on my blog post I was too tired.   Rain.... rain.... and more rain!  That is what we have.  Last weekend we had one day of full on sunshine and I wasn't about to waste it.  I planted flowers like it was my business!  My lower back however the next day wasn't as thrilled, but I am glad that chore is done!

I was introduced by a friend to the app Dubsmash.... you need to check it out.

It is free, hilariously fun, and addicting!  I think I missed my calling and should have been in movies, or at least a sitcom!

I am planning a trip to San Diego and LA next month for a few days so packing and preparing is about to commence.  I can't wait to wake up early, grab a coffee and walk the beach as the sun rises.  More details on my trip as soon as I have a few more things finalized.

Lastly.... I know I shared my master bedroom mood board here, but it is finally done!  I took photos a few days ago and the final reveal should be ready next week!  I am excited to see what you all think! It truly has been a labor of love and patience's.

Mood Board / Master Bedroom

Happy Monday.  I spent my weekend in Tulsa and have a full heart after spending time with my family there.  If you follow me on instagram you know that no trip home is complete without stopping off to see Jill at Rustic Cuff.  I have lots of new goodies to share soon. Today I am sharing my Master Bedroom mood board.  If you have been following along with me for a while now you know I have been working on my Master bedroom.  Yes...I know I started it last spring, and yes.... I know this seems to be a long time, but trust me when I say I think it was worth it.  A few details changed from the original plan in my head and I am glad I was patient with the ideas.    I knew what I was looking for in the overall look and I wanted to be careful with the amount of pink I add as well as the shade.  It's almost complete and I can't wait to share it in the coming weeks!  Stay tuned!

Master Bedroom progress

As promised I have created a design board for my bedroom makeover.  First and for most let me just say that the bedding on the bed is only from the store image.  Ummm… no!  I do not have brown bedding.  Our bedding is all white with a waffle weave white blanket.  So far we have added this one piece of art we found at Z Gallerie, the Love print I had already purchased for the bedroom a mirror console and these crystal lamps.  We had round tables that work perfect as side table by the bed,  and now we have just one large wall to figure out what to do with.  I brought the pouf up from my office to go with my barrel chair still waiting to be reupholstered.    I am taking my time and being patient to find just the right element to add to the space.

My mom is visiting this week and we will be making the pillows out of this fabric and I can't wait to get them on the bed.  I am down to a few final decisions and a rug is one of them.  I have a white shag rug in the room for now but would love to add a color to the room.  I am loving this one and this one.

I mentioned yesterday I brought home wallpaper samples and I think I found what we like.  Can. Not. Wait. for it to all be done and show it to you!

What do you think so far?

Nell Hills

October 08, 2013
There is a fabulous place not far from Kansas city named Nell Hills. It is a decorators dream.  Or for that matter, any girls day trip dream place!  If you haven't heard of Nell Hills yet, you really need to check it out.  Every inch, nook and cranny, and shelf adorned with goodness.  I usually make a day of it and visit the original location in Atchison Kansas every fall.

On this particular day, I only had enough time to visit the KC location in Briarcliff.  There is never enough time to browse the store!  Don't these urns make a grand entrance? There's a selfie of me too in the reflection!

There is something for just about every décor and style.  I would love to go in, place an order for all new sofas, pillows, and bedding!  I think Joe, no, I know Joe, would have a heart attack!  While most everything in the store is a great price point, an entire new selection of furniture would not be!  Maybe a piece at a time can come home with me!  I find you really have to have a plan as to what you are looking for, or you can easily get overwhelmed with so many decorating ideas and holiday décor!

See what I mean?

Bedroom Makeover

June 26, 2012
So let me start off by saying that I will not be making the same mistake I made in the great room I posted about here. We have been wanting to change the bedroom for some time.  I swoon over headboards, and designs but hadn't really taken any steps to designing anything.  That all changed this past weekend. I spent the day on the Country Club plaza here in KC shopping.  I decided to stop in Restoration Hardware to see what they offered.  My goal was to just color and texture shop.  Not actually purchase.   I found it.  The perfect bedding.  It is stonewashed belgian linen and in gray.  I took my trusty color swatch the sales associate gave me and had him hold the duvet cover in my size so that I could get the BF's opinion on the color.  Two phone calls later and an "If you like it then I am sure its perfect" I strolled back in and purchased it.  I got it home and that little voice inside me keep saying it was going to be cold.  Gray is a difficult color to show warmth, and the last thing I want in my bedroom is it to not be cozy.  Good thing I brought home the sample of the second color choice.

The gray duvet cover and the gray in the pillow compliment each other but are not a perfect match.   I know in the picture they look completely off, but trust me they aren't.  It is pretty, but not for the master bedroom.
This is the bedding that we currently have.  I am so done with the matalese.  The pillows  are from Restoration Hardware and Crate and Barrel and I am sure I can re purpose them in the guest room.
This is the second sample. It's called Prairie.  It is also the stonewashed belgian linen.  This is the choice I think we are going with.  I can really have fun with this and add a few accessories in silver I have my eye on!
The pillows that I made for the great room sofa match so well that i'm thinking of stealing them for the bed.  This is a sample of the fabric called city square in misty morn. What do you think?   I will choose other fabric and make new pillows for the great room!  So the paint that we used for this room also is a match.  Could it all be this easy?  This is going to be fun!!

Here are a few items I want to use in the space as well. I already own the Love print

Tufted

I want this bed.  I love it! I first spotted it while shopping in Z Gallerie a while back.  I have thought about it every since.  The problem is that there is nothing wrong with the bed I currently own.  Even though it is a darker wood large  four poster bed, there is nothing wrong with it.  I just think I have grown tired of it.  I have had it for almost ten years now.   When I pointed this bed out to the BF he didn't actually love it the same way I did either.  I think it is a tad bit feminine for his taste to rest in every night!!  I would settle, well maybe not settle but rather change my direction and opt for a more tailored look.  I have even started researching a little DIY nailtrim headboard.  No tufting for this DIYer however.   I will let you know if that idea makes it off the drawing board.  I love all the variations to creating a shape for your headboard.

Michelle over at 4 Men 1 Lady has a wonderful tufted bed.  I I love the way she makes the leather pop with the dark walls and dark blanket.
