Blush Pink and Peonies

June 03, 2016
Happy Friday!  It has been a whirlwind of a week.  Between Monday was a holiday, events during the week and well.... sunshine, I am looking forward to this weekend!  I have a list too long to count of emails I need to respond to, pictures to edit, and with a forecast of nothing but sunshine I feel compelled to work outside all weekend! I am continuing to shop my closet and exploring the countless outfits I have created.  This tank is from Madewell two years ago, and my shoes are last season but they have a few great options currently.  The shorts are new this year and super comfy.  My blush Banana Republic jacket is from early last fall and it was so popular it sold out in no time.  I hate there are not any good options to link to for you to create this look from your own closet, but I was able to find a few blush jackets that are similar.  If blush isn't your color, substitute it out for your favorite jacket.
Style Tip:  Throw a heel on with a pair of shorts, add a few key pieces of jewelry and your outfit just elevated itself. Oh, and add a bunch of gorgeous peonies and you're good to go!!
Enjoy your weekend lovelies and I will see you back here Monday with a recap of my Chanel event I attended, what I discovered, and what I purchased.

Seersucker Blazer

May 26, 2016
You know when you have your mind set on one thing and then something throws you for a loop?  That is how I ended up with this gorgeous seersucker blazer.  I had my mind set on a gingham blazer. I even tried one on in the store.  The problem was where the gingham blazer hit me on the hips.  I'm short, so jacket and top lengths are important to the overall appearance, If it hits me too high it will give the illusion of short and wide.  Not a good look.  I saw this blazer and thought it was nice, and then upon another glance realized it had a nice polka dot lining. It appeared longer so I decided to give it a try.  I loved it!  I compared into the gingham and it was a full 1.5 inches longer.  It was pretty much a no brainer at this point.  I am glad I was open to change and not so dead set on a gingham blazer that I let it get in my way of this lightweight seersucker.

Style Tip:  Think outside of the box when it comes to blazers. They aren't just 9-5 anymore.  Pair it with denim, shorts, and even toss one on over a tank dress.

Gingham Tunic

May 24, 2016
Tunics are trending again this season and with good reason.  they are comfy, versatile, and well ...just plain cute!  The one downfall I sometimes find with tunics is they are sometimes too roomy.  Yes... too roomy.  It's always something right?  As I have mentioned in the past  when you allow ample room for your chest in button shirts that extra allowance also tends to be all over.  Finding a shirt with buttons can be challenging.  Lucky for me this particular tunic has a slight gathering at the back yolk allowing me just enough extra material to take a seam down the back.  There is probably a good two inches I can do away with in the back of this tunic, but I needed the extra allowance for the button front!  Sounds like an ordeal right?  Having the ability to sew is on my side again!  Oh, and seriously you should go grab one of these gingham tunics.... it is on sale too!
Style Tip:  For a more tailored look with your tunic opt for a skinny belt to cinch in your waist.

Perfect White Shirt

May 17, 2016

Happy Tuesday. How was your weekend?  The weather was gorgeous again here.    One of my dear friends had her baby yesterday.  She literally left the office around 11am thinking she didn't feel well and with a bit of cramps, and at 4:30 she sent a text that she had him!  We are so excited and I'm going to hold that sweet baby boy today.   I have a pretty regular list of "reality shows" I like to watch.  There's the Housewives of OC, and BH, and let's not forget Vanderpump Rules.  I  wouldn't really say I have a favorite, and by no means do I plan my evenings around a show.  These days you can miss about three weeks and catch up on all of them in one siting the next time it's on.

The real reason I have shared some of my guilty TV pleasures is because of this necklace. I first saw it on one of my shows.  I did a google search on the show and necklace she was wearing and not only found it, but she had received so much media attention for the necklace that one of the shops that carry her line offered a discount!  Designed Susan Shaw creates beautiful pieces of jewelry and I was so excited to find her line.  I linked to the store I purchased mine from.  I don't now if the discount is still available but if it is here ya go  JENN15.  There are so many pretty pieces of Susan Shaw's collection I want to add in addition to my necklace.  My white shirt is the perfect neutral to showcase not only my new necklace, but allows the vibrant colors in my paisley skirt to stand out.  A little pattern mixing with my leopard Clare V. sandrine, and it's a great spring outfit.

7 ways to style White Denim

May 06, 2016
Gap
Happy Friday!  The weather is gorgeous here in the Midwest and it looks like spring has finally arrived.  Can you believe we are already into May?  Crazy.  My middle son turns 24 tomorrow and Sunday is Mother's Day so it will be busy to say the least for me.   I have shared so many outfits with my white denim this spring and we aren't even close to Memorial Day. I 'm pretty sure the rule of white after Memorial Day is a bit out of date! I rounded up my favorite outfits where I have styled my white jeans, both distressed and non distressed to show you how versatile a pair can be.  If you don't have a pair.... you should get a pair now!   I linked to everything that was still available or shared options in all of these outfits below.

Wedges are super popular again this season and I tend to wear them a lot more now.  They are comfortable and can dress any outfit up, or down, depending on what you pair them with.  In the first two outfits I wore heels with my white denim.  A mid heel, but definitely dresses up my outfit.  Don't be afraid to mix denims together.  I paired my jean jacket with two of these outfits and loved the contrast!  Another fun option is to throw on a pair of converse.   From bags, to clutches to totes anything goes with white denim!  Have fun with how you style your denim and let me know if you have a favorite way you style your white denim.

Roof Top Golden Hour

May 02, 2016
Golden hour is one of the most magical times of the day for photography.  Weather you catch it in the morning or in the evening, it is a glorious display of light.  This particular event I caught the golden hour in the evening.  The Blog Guild had its spring meet up a few weeks ago and the roof top terrace was gorgeous with skyline views of the city, and the sun setting made it a perfect venue for photos.  I have to admit, I don't know as much about my camera as I should.  I really want to take a photography class, but not the kind where you take photos... more of the type of class where you learn setting and practice adjusting your camera to your needs repetitively.  Instead of every time your surrounding change you have to stop and think thru what you need to adjust, then remember where and how to find it.  What also is a inconvenience, is when you hand your camera to someone to take pic for you and they adjust your settings but aren't familiar with your camera.  Canon vs. Nikon users, I'm a Nikon user.  It all really comes down to time and making it a priority to fit in a class. Hopefully I can find one to attend this summer.

haven't been adding new items to my wardrobe too much lately. But I did do a little sale shopping this weekend, and love when everything you try on works perfectly.  I picked up some great new additions that I can't wait to share with you.  There will be some new pattern mixing for sure!

Spring Whites Outfit

April 26, 2016
When I was a younger mother the thought of owning white, let alone wearing white, made me shudder. Boys and white do not mix.  I have gradually added whites and neutral items back to my wardrobe and I must say, I am loving the clean palette and feeling good about no little hands grabbing my leg.  I actually have white furniture now as well.  I have shared glimpses of my home and you can see my home office here, master bedroom here, and my great room here.  I know what you're thinking... "but don't you have grandsons?"  I sure do, and no sticky dirty hands leave the kitchen at Mimi's house!

Some of your best outfits are the ones you feel good in and I am really enjoying wedges this season.  As I get older the thought of standing in 4 inches heels doesn't even sound good.  Who cares how sexy it makes your calves look or the fact that you are taller, it's down right uncomfortable.  I pretty much have a 3 inch maximum heel height for everyday wear and only pull out the big guns of higher heels for special occasions with minimum standing and more sitting and a pair of flats always in my bag to switch out of.   Aging doesn't have to be boring....

White Denim for Spring

February 25, 2016
It's funny what you don't notice when you are busy looking at everything.  Sounds funny huh?  Think about it for a minute.... you notice things like landscaping, architecture, and graffiti, but when you are busy looking for something and you don't know what you begin to notice everything.   We were out and about over the weekend and checking out photo locations.  We drove past the usual places with a desire for something else.  We didn't know what or where, but we knew we would know it when we found it.    We began to see things that are common everyday places except brighter and bolder.  Take this neon door for example.  We found these as the back entrance to a building while turning around to check out another area.  It was as if they were waiting for us.   I wish we had a whole slew of colored walls like LA or Miami but then I would need palm trees too!  So for now I will take a neon door and a new wall of ivy we found as great locations.

I paired up a few of my favorites, and I pulled out my white denim to transition them into spring.  Paired with my jean jacket and blue striped top with this Dolyn cross body, it was a perfect look.  I love how the blue zipper on the bag really pops.  I added my trusty leopard heels and a pair of Nickel and Suede leather earrings to my outfit and was ready for date night.  I am so ready for patio weather and longer daylight.  It's so close!!

Cuyana Blush tote and Blush Roses

February 16, 2016
Incorporating pastels into your wardrobe in the drab months of winter should put a pep in your step.  I have talked about my ROA with this jacket and you can also see here, and here other ways I have been styling it this entire winter.  We are inching closer and closer to daylight savings and that means daylight longer into the evenings.  Yay!  I wore this outfit last week to our workshop.  Layering with a jacket really does add versatility to your outfit.  I was able to take off my jacket comfortably inside but when I moved outside it was the perfect weight for a crisp afternoon.   My Cuyana blush tote was a gift from Joe for Christmas and it is one of the softest leather totes I have ever felt.  I love it

Style tip:  When wearing pastels add a small pop of color with your accessories to take your outfit up a notch.  I threw on this The Ropes Maine bracelet as a last minute and accessory and love the hot pink pop.

I switched up to my tortoise sunnies for a softer feel, and well you  know me..... I had to have a bit of edgy so it was my skull Jem slippers for my feet!  How are you adding spring elements to these final winter blues days?

KC Fashion Week Recap

October 01, 2015
Art
This past weekend, myself along with bloggers and fashion aficionados packed into the Kansas City Union Station to see the upcoming Spring/Summer 2016 collections from local and regional designers. Raising awareness for melanoma; KCFW partnered with Fair & Fashionable and requested the attendees wear black on Thursday to show support for the awareness of melanoma. Over 200,000  people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year according to the Mayo Clinic.  The idea behind the movement is to inspire people to change their belief; simply put, that natural skin tone is in style and healthier than suntanned.

With each designer taking the runway, I found myself saying this was my favorite look.... until the next designer took the runway!  So here are a few of my top picks from the event.  To learn more about Kansas City Fashion Week, visit their website!

Alexis Cook

 Michael Drummond

Paulie Gibson

Gorgeous designs for sure.  What is your favorite look from the event?  I can't wait for spring to attend the next show!
