In 2012 I was in San Francisco on business when the Giants won the world series. It was electric. It's now 2014 and I'm in the town where the Royals are going to win the world series! The city is all a buzz for the boys in blue! Kansas City is busting with excitement. I don't think anyone will get much work done today because we are all waiting for 7pm! This tee by Charlie Hustle that Paul Rudd wore to the games is pretty much a staple in every closet in town I bet! I love it! Win or lose tonight.... the opportunity to even make it to game 7 is a proud accomplishment! May the best team win! Go Royals!!

Leopard Cami

This is the time of the year in in the Midwest in which the weather dictates your attire. One day you can be in shorts... the next a sweater! This day however was a gorgeous day. I shopped my closet for this outfit with only the cami being a new purchase. If you saw this post on how to build your wardrobe then you know that having the key items allows you to add fun pieces like this cami. While shopping for it I knew I wanted to pair it with this green cardigan, again, another item I had in my closet and the rest of the outfit came together once I started building it in my bull pin! DIY Velvet Acorns

Happy Friday friends! With the weather turning cooler and the leaves turning the most vibrant colors, I decided to pull from my archives last years fall DIY ... velvet acorns to share again with you. This year my sis and I got together to make larger acorns. She found a tree with huge caps and we thought mixing the two sizes could be fun. Enjoy this post.

This post is going to be photo heavy, but I wanted to share step by step instructions on creating these darling little velvet acorns for your fall decorations! I first saw these last year and though what a darling little idea. Something to decorate for fall in addition to pumpkins. I love pumpkins. But these are cute! Super cute. And believe it or not , not overly hard to make. I would rate these as a skill level of medium. Only because there are so many steps, but they are truly worth making!

Start by gathering acorn caps of various sizes. I went to a park and walked around to find different varieties of oak trees. You can actually order acorns and caps on Etsy! I guess I never really paid that much attention to the caps of acorn trees, but there is a big difference!

I went to Joann's to select velvet for my acorns to find A) its expensive, B) there was not a large selection of colors available and C) velveteen works just as well. So buy velveteen.

The cast of characters for this performance are as follows:

Velveteen
A glue gun
Toothpicks
sharpie
a 2' circle ( I used a ring from a set of fondant cutters)
scissors
cotton balls
needle and thread
obviously acorn caps
snippers

Trace around your ring on the back side of your fabric. Once you have all your circles drawn, cut them out. If you have a few smaller acorn caps, you might want to cut inside of the circle to make it slightly smaller.

Next, whip stitch around the edge of your cut circles. No knot is necessary as you will knot the ends when you draw the thread tight. Be sure to leave enough tail to pull the ends together.

Go ahead and cut off both the sharp ends on the toothpicks so they will be ready for this step. I suggest cutting them outside and make sure to be careful for flying ends.

I like to do all of one stage at a time, rather than build one acorn at a time, but you make your little nuts any way you like!

Now, depending on the size of your cotton balls, you will want to pull some of the cotton off to make the "ball" slightly smaller. You will have to just gage this by sight. You want the cotton to be semi firm, but squishy at the same time once inside your acorn. Take a toothpick and wrap the cotton around the pick then draw the ends of your thread together carefully pushing the cotton inside the stitch line. Tie the two ends of your thread together creating a velvet ball with the end of your toothpick sticking out the top.

Now this is where you size up your acorn caps to your velvet acorns. You want the top of the toothpick that is sticking out of the velvet to gently push against the top of the cap to create the little point at the tip of your acorn. You may have to trim the toothpick a little once you have sized the caps up.

Once they are all ready to glue, fill the acorn cap with enough glue to set and hold the fabric. Careful not to get any glue on your finger tips working with such small items.

And voile!

Stripes and Tweed

I don't know what is growing more in my closet.... the leopard or the stripes! Can you really ever have to many stripes or enough leopard? I don't think so! Or enough pink! I stepped a little out of my comfort zone with this Baublebar statement necklace and am so glad I did. Although I am still not a fan of the statement necklaces (a personal preference for me) they look great every time I see someone wearing one. The pop of pink ties the outfit together don't you think?

I do have a confession to make however, every time I see a style post around the internet a stylist puts together I often have to ask myself, Why did she leave the clutch empty? It looks so fake and flat. She should at least put something in her clutch to at least appear as if she is really carrying it rather than styling it! Every time I see a post with a clutch that is empty I think ...what an oversight. Now I bet your looking at my clutch here and thinking the same with me today.... but I ALWAYS have items in my clutch and it looks flat in all these pics. So I have to stop judging all those style pics I see and give a little grace, because today my clutch looks like the ones I laugh at!!!!!
